Basic Function
The Global Marketing & USCAN Business Manager is responsible and accountable for managing the compound (SMC, BMC and Quantum) product lines globally as well as providing leadership to the Application Development & Technical Service (AD/TS) team and to Asset Management in USCAN. The cross-functional and cross-regional scope of this role are unique, and it provides the opportunity to lead the success of the global Engineered Composites (EC) business.
Roles & Responsibilities


  • This role leads a cross functional team to support its four distinct accountabilities - Global Product Management/Marketing, USCAN Financial Performance, USCAN Asset Management, and USCAN Application Development/Technical Service.
  • Under the Global Marketing responsibilities, the individual will lead the Product Managers for BMC and SMC for the product strategy, positioning, and development throughout the product lifecycle. This role utilizes the fundamentals of Marketing Excellence to lead the team in the development and management of robust product line strategies. This includes market analysis, needs-based customer segmentation, development of value propositions, and pricing strategies among other processes. Through the process, the team is expected to set the strategy and future direction of the defined product line within the business and align the goals for the other functional areas to support the execution of the strategy.
  • In addition, this position has leadership responsibilities for the USCAN AD/TS team. The role is responsible for understanding the technical needs of the AD/TS team and providing direction on priorities and resources to support the business needs. The AD/TS team plays a critical role of technical field support for the Commercial team, supporting both ongoing sales and the roll out of new products. The team interfaces with EC's manufacturing teams, Sales, New Business Development, and Product Application Development (PAD) to provide the technical bridge between LYB and our customers. The team provides an important function to support successful execution of the business strategy.
  • Finally, with oversight of USCAN Asset Management, this role provides leadership to the USCAN Integrated Business Process (IBP), which includes managing and providing direction the Asset Manager. The Asset Manager facilitates the IBP process across the supply, demand, and financial planning functions to facilitate an effective business decision making process. Asset management also includes evaluation of plant performance versus external benchmarks and business needs, the development and maintenance of an appropriate asset strategy to close performance gaps, optimize the cost versus revenue balance and fit to business needs. The role defines corresponding initiatives while driving rapid implementation of gap closure measures and improvement action plans, interacting with Marketing, Manufacturing, Procurement, ADTS & Planning as appropriate. Asset management also drives internal optimization of product portfolio, finished goods and raw material inventories, and product wheel, while targeting and maintaining the lowest complexity, lowest fixed and variable production costs, optimization of customer mix/ freight costs and working capital optimization.
  • Through the leadership across the functions of this team, this role has a strong span of control to support the accountability to the financial results of the EC USCAN business unit. EC is a unique business within LYB, and this role has autonomy to lead fit-for-purpose processes to support the success of the business.



    Min. Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials or Polymer Science or Technical Discipline, required.

    Master's Degree, MBA, Marketing, Financial or Advance Technical Discipline Degree, preferred.

    15+ yrs. experience in a related industry holding positions in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials, Polymer Science, or other Technical Discipline, preferred.

    Extensive Knowledge of Plastics, Chemicals, materials and project management, required. Extensive Knowledge of Composites, preferred.

    3-5 yrs. experience in Commercial role(s) with experience in contracting and negotiating strategies in support of sales or procurement, preferred.

    Experience in leading and managing commercial and technical teams, required. 3-5 yrs. experience as a people leader leading a Commercial, Technical, or cross-functional team, preferred.

    High level of knowledge in Project Management and Planning, required.

    High level of Commercial and Scientific verbal and written communication skills. required.

    Strategic Planning & Implementation: Develop and implement product line strategy and actions that supports the global business goals. Manage the global product line and focus on positioning the products as best for purpose versus other material alternatives. Develop a highly effective and efficient application engineering organization designed to support our business objectives.

    Commercial & Technology Leadership: Provide commercial and technical leadership to the business. Maximize product line profitability and drive for sustainable long-term growth. Provide leadership in Application Engineering and Design best practices. Seek out innovative technologies, design and modelling tools which can be applied to support global business objectives. Implement efficient and effective design methodologies that will enable the business to deliver differentiated value to the customer.

    Application Engineering & Field Technical Support: Secure and apply appropriate technical resources and knowledge to solve customer problems. Ensure team executes effectively using strong technical knowledge, project management and communication skills.

    Asset Management: Direct and provide support to the improvement of the IBP process and improvement of order fulfillment and production efficiencies with the ultimate goals of improved customer satisfaction and consistent execution of the business strategy

    Personnel Development: Provide training and development opportunities and regular feedback to direct reports which afford them the best opportunities for personal and professional growth. Hire and develop new employees to meet the needs of the business today while keeping an eye toward what is needed to maintain a competitive edge in the future. Set team and individual challenging goals, develop metrics in harmony with strategic objectives and ensure all those under your leadership have the tools needed for successful implementation of objectives.
