Position Details:
Titles: Auto/Diesel Maintenance Technician
Location: Houston, TX
Shift: The plant runs 12-hour days and 12-hour night schedule
Monday - Saturday, off Sunday. You will work days for 3-months then
nights for 3-months on rotation. When fully staffed the plant will
shift to a 5am-1pm / 1pm-9pm / 9pm-5am shift schedule.
Compensation: Compensation packages and starting wages vary widely,
but it is well-known that careers in the
steel industry yield VERY LARGE W-2s, primarily because of overtime
opportunities, company contributions, etc. You can expect your
initial starting base to be around $70K annually with your FIRST
YEAR total W-2 to be into the $100K range. The average steelworker
makes $133K yearly. Your total pay includes your base hourly rate +
OT paid out after 8-hours worked daily + shift differential +
quarterly + annual target bonuses with multipliers (typically half
paid out quarterly, the balance paid annually)

Position Description: The Oilwell Services and Offshore Operations
of the company are Union facilities and environments, so coming
into the company as a maintenance professional will be both
challenging and rewarding. Unless you have steel industry
manufacturing experience, you must be capable of moving into an
environment where you have the least product knowledge and industry
experience yet are the responsible maintenance technician who must
produce quality results to keep production rolling. You will be
working with a group of experienced steel workers along the path to
high productivity and excellence, while mastering the overall
aspects of the steel business at the front-line maintenance level.
Due to the nature of the business, the facilities operate 24
hours/day, 7 days/week, 365 days/year. Therefore, this position?may
require work outside of normal hours during plant shutdown and any
unplanned/unforeseen outages.
As a Auto/Deisel Maintenance Mechanic you will have the following
responsibilities:
--- Service, repair, modify, diagnose, and reassemble vehicles,
machinery, & equipment for operation.
--- Failure analysis, service, and repairs for customers.
--- Troubleshoot electrical, air conditioning, and emissions
systems issues.
--- Perform preventative maintenance - changing oil, checking
batteries, lubrication, etc.
--- Repair diesel trucks - engines, alignments, suspension,
hydraulics, transmissions, electrical systems.
--- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings,
etc. for proper, safe, & optimal operation.
Requirements: Candidates must have a high-school diploma or GED.
Candidates must have good, safe troubleshooting skills and
experience on heavy vehicular systems & equipment. Candidates must
have the maintenance experience outlined in the position
description above in the military, or in a manufacturing or
industrial environment. Candidates must have outstanding safety
record and good general understanding of maintenance operations.
This is a very industrial, blue-collar environment that requires a
keen eye for safety. Candidates must pass a pre-employment hair
follicle drug test as U.S. Steel has a zero-tolerance policy for
drugs and alcohol for safe steelmaking operations.
